Best of GateHouse

The Downers Grove Reporter was recently presented its Best of GateHouse 'Division C: Newspaper of the Year' award.

The Repository (Canton, Ohio), The Independent (Massillon, Ohio) and the Downers Grove Reporter (Ill.) have been named Newspapers of the Year for the 2008 Best of GateHouse contest.
 
The University of Missouri judged the Newspapers of the Year competition and in addition to naming the best newspapers of the year, have also recognized the best sections (and coverage) of the year for all divisions.

The 2008 Best of GateHouse results are in. Champions and finalists for all categories are being released today.

The Newspaper of the Year champions, runners-up and finalists and the best sections of 2008 will be named next week. Those categories are being judged by the University of Missouri.

There were 618 total entries in this year’s contest.

Entries for the Best of GateHouse 2008 editorial awards have been sent to a variety of judges across the country at both institutions and industry organizations.

Submissions for GateHouse Media's second annual editorial contest — The Best of GateHouse 2008 — are currently being sought.
The competition highlights and rewards the most extraordinary journalism crafted by our newsrooms, and recognizes our best newspapers of the year. 
 
The Best of GateHouse competition is open to full-time newsroom employees of GateHouse Media Inc. This is a calendar year competition – only work published in 2008 is eligible. All entries must be postmarked no later than Friday, Jan. 16, 2009.

The University of Missouri’s Reynold’s Journalism Institute has named the Rockford Register Star (Ill.) "The Best of GateHouse 2007" Division A Newspaper of the Year (daily more than 15,000 circulation). The Journal Star (Peoria, Ill.) was the runner-up.


The University of Missouri’s Reynold’s Journalism Institute has named the Daily Messenger (Canandaigua, N.Y.) "The Best of GateHouse 2007" Division B Newspaper of the Year (daily smaller than 15,000 circulation).

The (Independence, Mo.) Examiner was the runner-up.

The Marblehead (Mass.) Reporter was the runner-up.

Judging has wrapped up in the Best of GateHouse 2007 contest for Division A (daily over 15,000 circulation).

Champions for all categories are being released today.

Finalists for Newspaper of the Year are being sent to the University of Missouri, where champions in all divisions will be announced in a few weeks.

Champions and special recognition winners' work will be profiled in a Best of GateHouse book produced in the spring.

All winners will receive trophies or framed certificates and cash awards.
